Okie so now we will have our own Imperial college in India. So as the HRD minister describes it this would be a reality ,creating a boom in education sector comparable to the telecom sector. I am happy for the fact that government has put the correct foot forward in this regard, my concerns are that getting a foreign degree is not really much about the degree. It is the sort of experience you get staying in a alien country that is important. Dealing with day to day issues , coming up with solutions, building the self confidence to overcome situations thts what it is all about. These are the kind of virtues that will be steady in the long run as opposed to degree itself
So the point of Discussion here would be whether to go abroad for the degree or for the experience. Another aspect to this thing is the regulation of fees charged by these foriegn universities, there should be some cap on the fee structure. It should benefit any common indian who wishes to seek a foreign degree. Because if there is not much difference in the home fees and overseas fees i would might as well got to the foreign country to get the degree. Other than this there should be a separate grading system, any University which has good credentials abroad may not neceesarily transfer the same credits to its offside campus. The issue of Quality control is something that then becomes important. Proper Quality checks is something that should be looked after.
